HEIC to JPG converter

HEIC has been Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. Windows and Android don't read it without extra software, so converting to JPG makes the photo work everywhere.

No. Conversion runs in your browser using WebAssembly. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored.

There's a small loss because JPG compresses differently, but at the quality used here it isn't visible in normal viewing.

Open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible, which saves new photos as JPG. Then open Settings → Photos and set Transfer to Mac or PC to Automatic, so copies come across as JPG. Photos already in your library stay HEIC and still need converting.

You get the still frame. The short video attached to a Live Photo isn't something a JPG can hold, and a burst converts as its first frame.

No. The photo is redrawn as it converts, so the EXIF block — camera, date and the GPS coordinates most phones record — isn't carried into the JPG. That's usually welcome when you're sending a photo to someone.

HEIC is roughly twice as efficient as JPG, so the same picture needs more space as a JPG. If the file has to be small, convert first and then compress to the size you need.
