How did this tool do?
Why BMP files are so large, and what JPG does about it
BMP usually stores every pixel uncompressed, which is why a single BMP screenshot or scan can run to many megabytes. JPG compresses the same image to a small fraction of that, often under a tenth of the size for photos.
BMPs mostly come from older Windows software, scanners and industrial or lab equipment. Most websites, email services and upload forms won't take them, or will reject them for being too large.
JPG is lossy, but at quality 90 photos look unchanged. If the BMP is a screenshot full of text, JPG can blur the edges slightly; PNG is the lossless alternative for that kind of image.

Converting formats, answered
How much smaller will the JPG be?
Usually dramatically. BMP is typically uncompressed, so JPG often saves 90% or more on photographs.
Will the image lose quality?
Slightly, since JPG is lossy, but at quality 90 it isn't visible on photos. For text-heavy screenshots, convert to PNG instead.
Why do BMP files exist at all?
BMP is a simple, old Windows format that's easy for software to write. Some scanners and older programs still save it by default.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the files never leave your device and it keeps working with your connection off.
