Page size, margins and file size, explained
Every image becomes one page, in the order shown. A4 (210 × 297 mm) is the standard almost everywhere outside North America; Letter (8.5 × 11 in) is the standard in the US and Canada. If the PDF is going to be printed or sent to an office, pick the one they use. Same as image makes each page exactly the size of its picture, with no border, which suits screenshots and scans that are already cropped.
Orientation on Auto turns each page to match its image, so a landscape photo gets a landscape page instead of a small picture in the middle of a tall one. Margins add white space around the image: none for edge-to-edge, small for a normal document, large when the pages will be printed and hole-punched.
Most upload portals cap a PDF at a few megabytes, and a phone photo alone can be larger. Image size controls that: Balanced limits each picture to 2400 px on its long edge, which is still sharp in print, and Small file limits it to 1400 px, which is plenty for reading on screen. Each image is stored in the PDF as a JPG, and the quality slider trades file size against detail.
