PNG to AVIF converter
Convert PNGs to AVIF to keep transparency while shrinking the file further than WebP usually can.
Convert to
The smallest files, keeps transparency. Takes a little longer to create; newer apps only. AVIF needs WebAssembly, which this browser has turned off.
How did this tool do?
Why convert PNGs to AVIF
AVIF supports transparency, so logos, cut-outs and graphics that need a see-through background can move from PNG to AVIF without losing it. For photographic PNGs the size reduction is usually dramatic.
AVIF is lossy at normal quality settings. For display on a web page that's invisible, but keep the PNG as the master if you'll edit the image again.
Encoding AVIF is slower than other formats, and outside modern browsers support is limited. It's the right choice for web pages where every kilobyte counts, not for files you're sending to people.

Converting formats, answered
Does AVIF keep the transparent background?
Yes. AVIF stores transparency, so see-through areas are kept.
PNG to AVIF or PNG to WebP?
AVIF is usually smaller; WebP is faster to create and a little more widely supported. Both keep transparency.
Why does it take longer than other conversions?
AVIF's encoder does far more work to find savings, and it runs in your browser rather than on a server.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the files never leave your device and it keeps working with your connection off.
