How did this tool do?

Why TIFF to PNG keeps the detail

PNG is lossless, like most TIFFs, so nothing is thrown away in the conversion. That makes it the right choice for scans of documents, line art, diagrams and anything with text, where JPG compression would soften edges.

Unlike TIFF, PNG opens in every browser and nearly every app and upload form. It keeps transparency too, if the TIFF has any.

The PNG will often be smaller than the TIFF, but still much larger than a JPG. For photographic scans where size matters more than perfection, TIFF to JPG is the better trade. Multi-page TIFFs convert their first page.

Where you'll meet it

  • Scanned documents with text

    Keep letters and lines crisp.

  • Diagrams and line art

Lossless edges, with no compression blotches.

  • Web-friendly archives

A lossless copy that a browser can display.

Converting formats, answered

Is TIFF to PNG lossless?

Yes. PNG stores the image exactly, so no detail is lost in the conversion.

What about multi-page TIFFs?

The first page is converted.

TIFF to PNG or TIFF to JPG?

PNG for documents, text and graphics. JPG for photos, where a much smaller file matters more than lossless detail.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, so the files never leave your device and it keeps working with your connection off.
