Rotating photos, and straightening them
The quick case is a photo that's on its side or upside down: turn it 90° either way, or 180°. That's the whole job for most rotations, and it moves the pixels without redrawing them, so nothing gets softer.
If a photo looks right on your phone but sideways somewhere else, the phone probably didn't turn the image at all. It stored the picture as shot and added a note saying which way is up, and some apps and upload forms ignore that note. Running the photo through here applies the rotation to the pixels, so it shows the right way up everywhere.
For a tilted horizon or a slightly crooked scan, use the angle slider, which moves in half-degree steps. A free angle leaves empty corners, so choose what happens to them: trim to the largest upright rectangle that fits, or keep the whole image and fill the corners with a colour or transparency.
Transparent corners need PNG or WebP; JPG can't store transparency, so JPG files get white corners instead.

Does rotating by 90° lose quality?
The pixels are moved, not redrawn, so nothing is blurred. The image is saved again at the quality you choose.
What happens to the corners with a free angle?
Either trim to the largest upright rectangle (no empty corners), or keep the whole image and fill the corners with a colour or transparency.
Why is my phone photo sideways in some apps?
Phones often store a rotation flag instead of turning the pixels. ImgKit applies that flag, so the saved file looks right everywhere.
