Replace image background
New backdrop, no studio.
Cut the subject out and drop it onto a studio backdrop, a solid colour or your own photo — all on your device.
What's in the picture
Tuned for portraits and photos of people. Small and quick.
New background
Studio grey · drawn at your photo's full size, so it never looks soft.
Best for people; quick on any device.
Downloads once on first use, then runs offline. Your images are never uploaded.
Switched to JPG: nothing is transparent now, and a background in PNG is often ten times bigger for no visible gain. Lower Quality to shrink it further, or pick WebP for the smallest file.
How did this tool do?
See it work
The hard part is the hair.
Most background removers turn loose strands into mush. Drag the handle and look along the edge of the hair: this is the model's raw output on this photo, with no touch-ups, produced on the device you're reading this on.
- Transparent PNG or WebP, ready to drop onto any background
- The photo never leaves your browser — no upload, no account
- 26 MB model, downloaded once and then reused from the browser cache

Questions, answered
Can I use my own photo as the background?
Yes. Choose Photo and pick any image from your device — it's cropped to fill and centred behind the subject. Like everything else here, it stays in your browser.
Why is the first run slow and the rest instant?
The first run downloads the AI model and cuts the subject out. That cutout is then reused, so changing the backdrop or colour only redraws it — no second trip through the model.
Which format should I download?
JPG, which the tool switches to once a background is on: a photographic backdrop saved as PNG is often ten times bigger for no visible gain. Pick WebP for smaller still, or PNG if you go back to a transparent background.
The subject looks pasted on — can I fix that?
Turn on the soft shadow, which is cast from the subject's own outline rather than a box. A backdrop close in brightness to the original background also helps; the colours under From your image are sampled from the photo for that reason.
Is my image sent to a server?
No. The AI model itself is downloaded to your browser the first time you use the tool, then everything runs on your device — the image never leaves it. After that first download the tool works offline.
