Coordinates go into the EXIF GPS block, which is what Photos, Lightroom and map views read. The picture itself is copied byte for byte — nothing is re-saved. Existing camera details are kept.

Questions, answered
Are my photos or the map location uploaded?
Neither. The photos are edited in your browser, and the map is drawn from country outlines that ship with the site. Most geotagging tools load map tiles from a third party, and at the zoom you'd use to drop a pin those tile requests reveal roughly where you're tagging. Nothing here makes a request at all.
How accurate is the map?
The built-in map places you within a city or district, and the city search is accurate to the city centre. If you need the exact building, find it in Google, Apple or OpenStreetMap, copy the link and paste it in — the coordinates are read from the text on your device.
Can I tag a whole batch with the same place?
Yes, and there's no limit. If one of your photos already has coordinates, tap the location shown next to it to apply the same spot to every other photo in the batch.
Does this change the picture?
No. The image data is copied byte for byte and only the metadata is added, so quality is identical. Existing camera details like make, model and orientation are kept.
Does geotagging help my images rank in Google?
No. Google has said EXIF geotags aren't a ranking signal, and Google strips most metadata from the images it serves. Geotagging is worth doing to organise your own photos, to place them on a map in Photos or Lightroom, and for records — not for SEO.
Which formats can I tag?
JPG, PNG and WebP, all edited in place. HEIC and AVIF can't be edited without re-saving the picture, so they aren't offered here.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so your images never leave your device — not even for a moment.
