iOS icons and the store icons are filled with the background colour, since the App Store rejects transparent icons. Android foregrounds keep the logo inside the safe zone every launcher mask shows.

How did this tool do?

Every app icon size, from one image

The ZIP has an iOS AppIcon.appiconset folder with every iPhone and iPad size, the 1024 px App Store icon and a Contents.json, ready to drop into Xcode's asset catalogue. The Android folder has ic_launcher and ic_launcher_round in every mipmap density (48 to 192 px), adaptive-icon foregrounds, the adaptive-icon XML and a background colour resource, plus the 512 px Play Store icon.

iOS and store icons are filled with the background colour you choose, because the App Store rejects icons with transparency. Android launcher icons keep transparency, and adaptive foregrounds keep the logo inside the central 66 of 108 units, the safe zone every launcher mask shows, whatever shape the phone uses. Padding shrinks the logo inside the other icons if it touches the edges.

Start from a square image of at least 1024 × 1024 px, or an SVG, which is drawn at full size. Don't round the corners yourself: iOS and Android apply their own masks, and a pre-rounded icon ends up with odd corners. The preview shows how the main icons look before you download.

App icons, answered

Why does the iOS icon have a background?

The App Store rejects icons with transparency, so iOS sizes are flattened onto the colour you pick. Android keeps transparency.

Does it round the corners?

No, and it shouldn't: iOS and Android apply their own mask. Give it a full square and the system shapes it.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your images never leave your device.
