Without WebGPU this runs on the processor and takes a while — images up to 0.4 MP only. Chrome or Edge will be much faster.

Questions, answered

How big an image can I upscale?

About 1.2 megapixels with WebGPU (Chrome or Edge), or 0.36 megapixels without it. The image is processed in tiles, so memory stays low, but each tile takes time.

What's the difference between 2× and 4×?

2× rebuilds fine detail in a reasonably clean image. 4× is trained on compressed photos, so it also smooths out JPEG blocking — useful for old or heavily shared pictures.

Can it recover detail that isn't there?

No. It predicts plausible detail from what it can see. Faces and text improve a lot; unreadable text stays unreadable.

Is my image sent to a server?

No. The AI model itself is downloaded to your browser the first time you use the tool, then everything runs on your device — the image never leaves it. After that first download the tool works offline.
